A South African buyer contacted ORIN Appliances while preparing to introduce a rechargeable portable blender under its own brand.
The client had already reviewed several products but found that many models looked almost identical. Adding a logo to a standard blender would not create enough difference for the client’s intended retail positioning.
At the same time, developing a completely new product mould would increase the investment, minimum order quantity and preparation time.
The challenge was therefore clear: how could the buyer create a recognizable private-label product without making the first order unnecessarily expensive or complicated?
Project Snapshot: ORIN Appliances helped the buyer adapt an existing portable blender platform, customize the visible brand elements, develop suitable retail packaging and prepare a shipping solution for the built-in lithium battery.
The customer’s brand name, order quantity and confidential product specifications are not disclosed in this case study.
What the Client Actually Needed

The buyer was not simply looking for the lowest portable blender wholesale price.
The product needed to fit the client’s local brand image, expected retail price and target customers. The original requirements included product color, logo placement, bottle and lid selection, packaging design and transportation to South Africa.
Before discussing a final quotation, we compared several models from our Portable Blender Collection.
The review focused on more than appearance. We also considered:
-
Blending capacity
-
Product weight
-
Battery and charging configuration
-
Lid and safety-lock design
-
Cup material
-
Packaging dimensions
-
Units per export carton
-
Expected shipping volume
This helped us avoid recommending a model that looked attractive in photographs but would create problems with packaging, freight cost or retail positioning later. ORIN Appliances currently offers multiple portable blender formats for B2B buyers, allowing projects to begin with an existing platform rather than a single fixed model.
Why We Did Not Recommend a Completely New Mould
The client initially considered making larger changes to the external structure.
Opening a completely new mould was possible in principle, but it was not the most suitable route for this stage of the project. New tooling would require a higher development budget, more prototype revisions and a longer period before the buyer could test the product in South Africa.
Instead, we recommended retaining an existing motor, battery and safety structure while concentrating the customization on the parts customers would notice.
The proposed customization included:
-
A selected housing color
-
Revised logo size and position
-
A suitable bottle and lid combination
-
Private-label product labels
-
Customized user instructions
-
Branded retail packaging
This gave the buyer more visible product differentiation without redesigning every internal component.
For a first OEM portable blender order, this approach can provide a better balance between brand identity, development cost and commercial risk.
Reviewing the Product as a Complete Retail Package

A portable blender should not be evaluated only by looking at the appliance body.
The buyer also needed to consider how the product would appear on a retail shelf, how the accessories would be arranged and whether the packaging could protect the blender during international transportation.
A customized sample was therefore reviewed together with its lid, charging cable, instructions and retail box.
During the sample-review stage, we focused on:
-
Color consistency
-
Logo visibility
-
Bottle and lid alignment
-
Charging operation
-
Safety-lock response
-
Packaging fit
-
Accessory placement
-
Internal protection
The retail box and export carton were treated as two separate packaging layers.
The retail box needed to present the product clearly under the client’s brand. The export carton needed to protect multiple units during warehouse handling, stacking and long-distance transportation.
This distinction also affected the landed cost. An unnecessarily large gift box can increase the total shipping volume even when the individual product price remains unchanged.
ORIN Appliances’ packing and global delivery process covers retail packaging, export protection and international shipment preparation for B2B appliance orders.
Solving the Lithium-Battery Shipping Issue
Transportation was an important part of the project because the portable blender contained a built-in rechargeable lithium battery.
Battery-powered products cannot automatically be handled through every standard courier or freight channel. The available route depends on the battery configuration, shipment quantity, packaging, destination and carrier requirements.
IATA explains that air transportation requirements for lithium batteries vary according to factors including battery configuration and watt-hour rating. The actual shipment must therefore be confirmed with a qualified freight forwarder or carrier before dispatch. Buyers can consult the official IATA lithium battery guidance for general reference.
For the customized sample, we selected a shipping channel that could accept a rechargeable appliance and confirmed the required product information before collection.
For the commercial order, we compared air and sea freight.
Air freight could reduce the transit time, but the transportation cost would be considerably higher for a bulk quantity. Sea freight offered a more practical solution for the main order, particularly when the carton dimensions and total shipment volume were considered.
Before shipping, we coordinated the following information with the logistics parties:
-
Commercial product description
-
Quantity and carton count
-
Gross and net weight
-
Packing list
-
Commercial invoice
-
Consignee information
-
Battery-related product information
The purpose was to ensure that the product, packaging and commercial documents described the goods consistently.
The South African buyer remained responsible for local importer requirements, taxes, duties and customs clearance through its appointed agent. SARS provides official information about importing and clearing goods into South Africa, and buyers should confirm the applicable procedures before shipment.
The Final Solution
The final product direction retained the main technical platform while changing the elements that mattered most to the client’s brand.
The solution covered:
-
Product color and exterior presentation
-
Brand logo placement
-
Bottle and lid selection
-
Product information
-
Private-label retail packaging
-
Export-carton preparation
-
Lithium-battery shipping coordination
This allowed the buyer to avoid unnecessary mould investment while still creating a product that was more recognizable than a completely standard model.
The result was not the most complicated possible customization plan. It was the most commercially practical plan for the client’s first launch.
That is an important distinction.
Successful product customization is not measured by how many parts are changed. It should be measured by whether the final product fits the buyer’s market, brand, budget, sales channel and delivery plan.
What Can Be Customized on an OEM Portable Blender?
Depending on the selected model and order quantity, available customization may include:
-
Product color
-
Printed or engraved logo
-
Bottle and lid combinations
-
Retail gift box
-
User manual
-
Product label
-
Barcode position
-
Charging cable
-
Accessory combination
-
Export carton
-
Selected exterior components
More extensive ODM development can also be evaluated when the buyer has a clear design direction, suitable development budget and sufficient expected order volume.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can ORIN Appliances supply portable blenders to South Africa?
Yes. ORIN Appliances supports importers, distributors, retailers and private-label brands with portable blender sourcing, customization, packaging and shipment preparation. The final solution depends on the selected model, order quantity and delivery requirements.
Is a new mould required for a custom portable blender?
Not always. Many projects can use an existing technical platform while customizing the color, logo, bottle combination, packaging and selected exterior details. This normally reduces development cost and preparation time.
Can a rechargeable portable blender be shipped by air?
Air shipping may be possible through a suitable battery-product channel. The battery configuration, shipment quantity, packaging, carrier and destination must be reviewed before dispatch.
Is sea freight suitable for portable blender wholesale orders?
Sea freight is often more economical for bulk orders, while air freight may be more suitable for samples or urgent quantities. Buyers should compare transit time, shipment volume and total landed cost before choosing a route.
What information is needed for a portable blender quotation?
A buyer should provide the destination country, estimated quantity, preferred capacity, reference images, logo requirements, packaging requirements and expected delivery schedule.
Does ORIN Appliances support private-label packaging?
Yes. Available options may include customized gift boxes, product labels, user manuals, barcodes and export-carton details. The available packaging solution depends on the product and order quantity.
